How many times in the battles of this Christian life are you gripped with sudden fear? Warfare becomes so intense that you enter a place where all of Hell has bombarded you. You see the enemy approach in one direction, so you look for escape in the opposite. Once you redirect, the enemy closes in on you again. There’s a point in which you feel totally encompassed; trapped or completely surrounded by the enemy.
As soldiers, our attitude concerning warfare must change. Not to the degree of wishful thinking that is not based in the reality of scripture, but in the truth of scripture. Your eyesight is so deceiving. Satan always paints a false reality of your battles. Fear of the enemy is usually based upon our lack of understanding of God’s faithfulness and provision. If you don’t completely understand God’s love, faithfulness, and promises to you, then you could find yourself with your head hanging down in defeat wondering why God has left you abandoned in the battles of this Christian life.
However, this is not at all the truth. Although the scriptures teach us that battles will come and the enemy will rage, HE WILL NOT WIN! This was obviously the attitude of Apostle Paul when describing the troubles he faced in 2 Corinthians 4.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
Satan often plays mind games with the Christian. If he can altar your perception of reality, then you will believe the worst things. But I am reminded of a statement “Chesty Puller” said, “They’re on our right, they’re on our left, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us; they can’t get away from us this time.” How can a military make so bold a claim as this? Can we make these bold claims? Once you realize the victory you have in Jesus, your entire outlook on any battle from here to eternity will be completely transformed.
Elisha the prophet became the solo target of an entire army of the Syrian kingdom. God was greatly using Elisha to share military intelligence to the King of Israel concerning the Syrian King’s attack strategies. Each time Elisha forewarned the King of Israel, the Syrian King’s plans were thwarted. When the king of Syria found out that his plans were being foretold, he turned his entire army on one man, Elisha the prophet.
2 Kings 6:8-12 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
2 Kings 6:13-15 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots.
If you walk in victory and stand up in boldness and fight against the armies of hell in spiritual warfare, then after seeing Satan’s attacks decimated by God using you to forewarn those you love and thus seeing them escape those mirage of spiritual attacks, then don’t be surprised when Satan turns all of his hordes on you. But never fear. God is never going to leave you. As a matter of fact, when the devil pours it on the strongest, that’s when God sends in His own reinforcements to you.
2 Kings 6:15-18 And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was] full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. {6:18} And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
Elisha’s servant was in terror because his vision was not on reality. Elisha could not fear because he saw what his servant could not.
Your Ammunition for Today: BELIEVE IN GOD’S STRENGTH TO HELP!
God turns fear on his head. God turns Satan on his head. The only thing keeping you from seeing God’s majesty and glory in your battles is your fear of the devil. God never gave you a reason to not trust him. So why is it that you doubt so much? Do you understand that your fear of the devil is actually producing a negative outcome in your warfare?
Do you realize that doubting God literally closes the door of God’s help when you need it the most?
Once you learn to never fear ANYTHING the devil threatens to do to you, then that lack of fear produces a FAITH so great that it will bring forth the MIGHT of God to storm onto the battlefield on your behalf.
Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the SPIRIT OF THE LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
What have we learned today from this message? The phrase “Surrounded by the enemy” should take on an entirely new meaning. It should mean to all of us that God surrounds the enemy with Himself and His armies when we are surrounded by the enemy. Now you understand why Elisha prayed “LORD open up my servant’s eyes that he may see.” Now you understand Paul’s words “We are troubled on every side, yet not in distress.”
Satan is a liar. Satan is a laughing stock in comparison to God Almighty.
