VICTORY OVER AI

As we have already learned, just because you fight and lose in battle, it doesn’t mean failure is permanent or God’s plan.  Spiritual wisdom is essential in our warfare today.  The most vital piece to winning in the spiritual warfare of this life is not allowing anything to compromise your fellowship and relationship with God.  You do this by keeping yourself unspotted from the world.

Most of us would have turned and gone the other way after falling to the army of AI.  Joshual refused.  The ultimate fall of AI represents the relentlessness of God’s people.  One failure doesn’t keep you knocked down.  Just because AI defeated me yesterday doesn’t mean I won’t defeat them tomorrow.  My failures in the places God has already promised victory to me causes me to have a determination to seek out what went wrong; where I erred, correct that failure, and go on to fight again.

The Battle Plan Revealed

Joshual 8:1 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land: 8:2 And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.

Did you catch that?  See, I have given into thy hand the king of AI, and his people, and his city, and his land.  What a promise!  It’s much easier to fight in a war when you already know how it will turn out!  This is the pleasure of serving God!  God knows the end from the beginning.  If you will live in a condition where you can hear God, then everything else will fall into place.

Much of Christianity today knows little or nothing about true communion with the Lord.  Most Christians today pray, but very few live in a place where they can hear God’s voice.  Hearing God is not a special ability given to unique callings, it is a common privilege given to those who live right.  Make no mistake, if you don’t have a committed relationship with the Lord that allows you to hear the voice of God then you are already set at a severe disadvantage.

Israel’s failure with AI was due to sin entering the camp.  God’s voice and instruction came after the sin was cleansed from the camp and Joshua sought the Lord. 

The bible gives us clear instructions on how to bring us into relationship with the Lord.  However, it is through prayer and communion with the Lord where we gain specific instructions on how to approach the specifics in our life.  You can never go on past events or instructions to give you guidance for present battles. 

The key to Joshua’s ultimate victory over the city of AI was simple; Joshua sought the Lord and obeyed His instructions.

The Battle Plan Executed

Joshual 8:3-5 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night. 8:4 And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, [even] behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready: 8:5 And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,

Joshua commanded a battalion of soldiers to set up North of AI and wait for his signal.  Once the signal was given, they would ambush the city.  In the meantime, Joshua approached the city from the west as at the first.  When the army of AI knew of it, they did as in the last battle.  Once they came against Joshua’s army, Joshua retreated as at the beginning, but this time, that retreat was a deception tactic.  Once every man and man of war left the city AI, Joshua raised his spear in the air signaling to the ambush battalion to take AI.  All this was done at the direction of the Lord.

God always knows how Satan is going to respond in our warfare.  Therefore, His instructions are always right.  If you will follow God’s instructions, you will always be triumphant.

As God’s Marines, great victories come out of simple things.  Those things are; living in constant fellowship with the Lord, and carrying out His orders when He commands you.
