The growing intensity and toll warfare takes on you demands a certain level of maturity in your spiritual life. You simply cannot maintain a spiritual capacity to fight unless your inner man becomes a mental and spiritual warfighter. This warfare demands that you have a certain level of faith, confidence in God, understanding of God’s grace, how He forgives, and the weapons He arms us with.
Just like enemy fire coming in your direction like gunfire, mortar and even missiles, there’s nothing you can do than to hunker down until the it stops. Then you return fire. But returning fire requires that you did not receive a direct hit from enemy fire. Often times when the devil fires at us, he is all to often effective in the shots and missiles he lands at us. What does this look like in our spiritual warfare? One or two thoughts of discouragement seem to be enough to cause many people to quit. When you go to witness to someone and they didn’t receive your testimony as you thought they should, the devil then comes with words like “you’re a fake!” or “you just need to quit.” All of these are gunshots aimed at you. The only way they are effective is if you accept them. The only way they penetrate is if you allow them to.
We must also have an understanding of Satan’s enemy tactics. Satan is only as effective as you are unaware and unguarding of him. There is a certain amount of training required to resist him though. Although the devil often fires single shots at us, he has a more destructive plan in mind. Satan has a beachhead strategy. As an opposing army seeks to conquer a nation or take over a country’s territory, he must first establish a beachhead. In other words, the enemy must place a permanent footprint on the opposing nation’s territory.
The foundation of Satan’s warfare strategy is in the mind. Don’t ever forget this. His lies are very believable. The imaginations he places in your head are so convincing.
Doubts will continually be placed in your mind, imaginations will run wild, thoughts contrary to the word of God and will of God will bombarde your mind. These things will intensify greatly and there’s nothing you can do about them coming.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
You see, there is a warfare of the mind. Satan doesn’t just want to land a single shot at you though. He wants to establish a beachhead in your mind. Your mind is your most valuable asset or your worst enemy. If you don’t control it, Satan will. If you are easily discouraged, then you won’t last long on the battlefield. If Satan is able to easily convince you of his lies or believe his imaginations about what people think of you, then he has gained your mind as territory.

GUARD THE MIND
Every defeat in the Christian’s life can be traced back to some enemy gunshot or missile that found its way and landed in the Christian’s mind. When you believe Satan’s lies or allow his thoughts, imaginations, or knowledge into your mind, in reality what you’ve done is surrendered that ground to the enemy. Now that he has gained control and authority over your mind, he will then start to build strongholds where not only does he control you, but he will use you, your mouth, your body, as a vehicle to hurt, manipulate, and control others. It’s nothing more than an enemy beachhead established in your mind.
Once you believe the lies of Satan, you are literally giving up that ground of your mind to him. He then begins to take the mind as his own territory and immediately begins building fortresses that will become launching points for future attacks on you. That’s your territory, not the devil’s.
Have you taken on enemy fire in your mind? Has the devil targeted you so forcefully that he has now gained your mind as his own territory? Has he began to set up strongholds?
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation…
The helmet in our spiritual warfare is vital. It is a spiritual helmet that guards the mind. Without it, Satan will control it. How do we accomplish this? You must believe what God’s word says about you. You must believe what God’s word says about your situation. Anything thoughts that come against the word of God are potential to build up in your mind and tear down your fortresses against Satan.
Your ammunition for today:
GUARD THE MIND. PUT ON THE HELMET.
Have you surrendered your mind to Satan? Has the devil gained your mind as territory? If so, then take back your territory. Remove Satan’s Beachhead!
